5 things I don’t know about and probably should – except I could NOT care less about #4

  1. What is Dr. Who?  (I know it’s a TV show, so I guess the better line is “Who is Dr. Who”?)
  2. Who is Hunter Hays?
  3. What is a haiku and what do you do with it?
  4. Why is American Idol still on air?
  5. What exactly is a meme?

  1. 1. Doctor Who is the longest running scifi show ever and it’s british and amazing! And it’s about friendship and adventure and love and standing up for what’s right while being funny and silly and cheesy and dramatic and scary and heart-wrenching all at the same time.
    2. Hunter Hayes is a singer and he’s pretty good from the little I’ve heard of him!
    3. Haiku is a poem that has specific number syllables in each line and some other stuff too.
    4. American Idol is dumb and should never have been on the air!
    5. A meme is a picture on the internet that becomes associated with a certain character, joke or saying. Examples: Grumpy Cat pictures!

  2. I know the answer to #3.
    My pitiful Haiku for today:

    Hard to live our lives
    When cells grow and multiply
    Cancer is stupid

The more traditional nature based Haiku’s are much better.

The rest is a mystery. I did, however, for a moment think that MAYBE I should catch up on Dr. Who, then found out it’s been running for 30 years or something and changed my mind.

  3. If you’d like a deeper understanding of Doctor Who (which I wholeheartedly recommend), but aren’t ready to commit to a Netflix (or other) rental, check out Doctor Who on YouTube or the geek board on Pinterest. Pinterest is how I discovered it. 🙂 (I’m a dedicated fangirl. I can’t help myself.)

  4. 1. “Who is Dr. Who” is a central mystery of the show, and therefore cannot be answered. You and I need to set up some movie-nights, and you can come over, and I will train you in the nerdness of Dr. Who – or you can check out the starter guide I wrote a while ago: http://wp.me/p1SxVd-7b

    2. I don’t know who Hunter Hays is either. Is he a hunter of hays? There has been a growing crime ring of hay thieving in the mid-west. Is it a new crime procedural on tv about hunting hay?

    3. Other people have given a broad answer to this, but I’ll get a little more specific: A haiku is a Chinese version of poetry, which focuses on being specific and simple. Generally, it is 3 lines: the first is 5 syllables, the second 7, the third 5. The third line is supposed to be an insightful conclusion

NASA must think it’s cool, because they want people to write Haikus to Mars. The Internet things haikus are cool because they are short.

    Here’s one for you:
    Heather has a cat
    And a Louis Vuitton purse
    Which match each other

(The haiku from Krunch3r is better.)

    4. Fox gains millions of dollars and millions of viewers from American Idol. While I understand the many derisive attitudes towards the show, many forget we would not have Kelly Clarkson and many other A-listers without it. I think the world is a far better place when I can fist-bump to “What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger” – which should be your anthem.

    5. Your face is a meme.

  5. I watched the original Dr. Who back in the 60s when I was a child. Never saw the new series. Loved the original, although, my bedroom was upstairs in our home and when I would hear the condensed few drop from the upper roof to the lower one, I was convinced it was the robots from Dr. Who walking (or should I say “rolling”) on the roof. It took a lot of convincing from my brothers to believe otherwise. The others – I didn’t know either. And #4 is really still on? 😃
